Weekend critical for box office momentum

Nithiin-starrer sees decent footfalls in Hyderabad and Vijayawada on opening day. The Telugu action-drama 'Thammudu', starring Nithiin in the lead, kicked off its theatrical run on July 4 with an estimated Rs 2 crore net collection across India. According to the Sacnilk website, the film recorded an overall 19.91% occupancy for its Telugu 2D shows on Day 1. Hyderabad led the chart with 23.25% overall occupancy, thanks to a strong morning crowd and a consistent turnout through night shows. Chennai, though outside the film’s primary belt, saw a respectable 19.5% occupancy. Bengaluru remained soft, ending the day with a lower 8.25%, mostly due to limited screen availability and regional competition. While evening and night shows saw a mild dip in Hyderabad and other regions, the morning and afternoon slots were relatively stronger.

Nithiin, who plays Jay, received praise for his grounded performance. Varsha Bollamma and veteran actress Laya, making a return to the screen, brought emotional weight to their roles. Meanwhile, Saurabh Sachdeva stood out as the antagonist, as per the first reviews. The next two days will be crucial in deciding whether the film can build on its initial response or settle into a modest run. Strong regional support and family audience turnout may be key to its success. ETimes review for the film reads, \"On the technical front, the film is visually appealing, with cinematographer KV Guhan capturing the tribal locales with flair. Ajaneesh Loknath’s background score is atmospheric but rarely elevates the emotional beats. The action choreography is stylised, though several sequences stretch believability, further distancing the viewer from the story’s emotional core. Thammudu had all the ingredients for a stirring emotional-action drama, but in trying too hard to be everything, it ends up being less than the sum of its parts. A film that had the potential to hit the bullseye sadly misses the mark.\"
