Pakistan's Prime Minister Urges ECO Members to Address Climate Change and Water Disputes

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the 17th ECO Summit in Khankendi, Azerbaijan.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged ECO member states to deepen collaboration in response to regional and global challenges, especially climate change and geopolitical instability. He highlighted the urgent need for collective action as ECO member states face severe consequences of climate change like melting glaciers and declining agricultural productivity.

He condemned India's violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it aggression against Pakistan. Shehbaz Sharif emphasized Pakistan's vulnerability to climate change and proposed initiatives for climate resilience and clean energy.

He also condemned Israel's strike on Iran and expressed solidarity with the Iranian people. Shehbaz Sharif emphasized the need for operationalizing agreements under ECO Vision 2025 for regional connectivity and economic growth.

He thanked ECO member states for designating Lahore as the ECO Tourism Capital for 2027 and invited delegates to experience Pakistan's cultural heritage.

On the sidelines, Shehbaz Sharif met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and discussed mutual interests and regional developments. They emphasized deepening cooperation in trade, defense, energy, and investment sectors.

Shehbaz Sharif also met with President of Iran Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, reaffirming Pakistan's commitment to regional peace and cooperation.
