Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived at Buenos Aires on a two-day visit. He will hold talks with the country’s top leadership to review ongoing cooperation and discuss ways to enhance bilateral partnership in key areas.

PM Modi reached Buenos Aires on Friday evening (local time) and was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Ezeiza International Airport. This is the first Indian bilateral visit at the prime ministerial level to Argentina in 57 years. It is PM Modi’s second visit to the country as Prime Minister, with his previous visit being in 2018 for the G20 Summit. This visit marks the third stop on the Prime Minister’s five-nation tour.

PM Modi will have discussions with President Javier Milei to strengthen the India-Argentina partnership in areas such as defence, agriculture, mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, trade, and investment. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the visit will deepen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

In his departure statement, PM Modi highlighted Argentina as a key economic partner in Latin America and a close collaborator in the G20. He expressed his anticipation for discussions with President Javier Milei, focusing on advancing cooperation in agriculture, critical minerals, energy, trade, tourism, technology, and investment.

After wrapping up his visit to Trinidad and Tobago, where six agreements were signed to expand bilateral ties, PM Modi was honored with ‘The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago’, the highest civilian award of the country presented to a foreign leader for the first time.

Next, PM Modi will travel to Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit, followed by a state visit. The final leg of his tour will take him to Namibia.
