In Karachi, Lahore, and Peshawar, tens of thousands of police personnel have been deployed, sensitive areas sealed, and mobile phone services partially suspended. The main Muharram 9 procession in Karachi will start at 1:00 pm from Nishtar Park, following a religious gathering and congregational prayers. The procession will pass through various locations before concluding at the Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.
In Lahore, over 147,000 police officers and staff are securing 1,689 processions and nearly 3,900 religious gatherings. Special instructions have been given to various police units to ensure the safety of participants, with a focus on women and children. The province is on high alert with strict enforcement of security measures.
In Peshawar, the main procession started at 10:00 am from Husainia Hall. The Saddar and Cantonment areas have been sealed off, and mobile phone services suspended. Over 10,000 police and security personnel are deployed, and entry of Afghan refugees into the city has been banned for two days. Major roads have been closed to ensure security.
