Man Admits Guilt in Fatal Car Crash Involving Niece Marguerita O’Rourke

A man pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing the death of Marguerita O'Rourke in Rathkeale, Co Limerick, in December 2024. Danny O’Donoghue, 42, admitted the offences in Limerick Circuit Criminal Court. He struck Marguerita with his vehicle while she was closing gates, resulting in her death. Marguerita, 21, had recently become a mother. O’Donoghue also admitted to other related offences, including producing a machete and causing damage to property.

The court scheduled O’Donoghue’s sentencing hearing separately due to the sensitivity of the case. Victim impact statements will be considered, as Marguerita left behind a husband, parents, a brother, and a three-week-old child. O’Donoghue remains in custody and will be sentenced on October 29th.
