Mother and Son Rescued in California Forest After Leaving Handwritten Notes
A mother and her nine-year-old son were rescued in a California forest thanks to handwritten notes they left behind. The pair got stranded for over 24 hours in the Sierra Nevada mountain forest. The mother expressed gratitude for the rescuers' efforts.

The mother and son were rescued in the California forest after leaving handwritten notes. The mother described it as a scary experience but praised the rescuers. They were found by the Calaveras County Volunteer Search and Rescue Team who found notes left by the mother asking for help. The duo was stranded for more than 24 hours in the Sierra Nevada forest.
On July 11, the Calaveras County Dispatch Center was informed that they were overdue to return from a camping trip. The rescue team, already in the area for training, began the search using air assets and off-road vehicles. Campers also provided information that helped locate the missing persons. The mother and son were found a mile away from the last note.
After spending the night in the car to avoid wild animals, they were rescued and reunited with their family. The GPS signal failure in a remote area contributed to them getting lost.
