IIA Releases Video and Images of Third Interstellar Visitor 3I ATLAS

The Indian Institute of Astrophysics in Bengaluru has shared a video and time-lapse images of comet C/2025 N1 (ATLAS), the third interstellar object to enter our solar system. Discovered by the ATLAS telescope in Chile, the comet is being studied by telescopes worldwide to understand its composition and structure before it leaves the Sun's gravitational pull. There is no threat to Earth from this comet.

IIA Releases Video and Images of Third Interstellar Visitor 3I ATLAS

Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru, released a video and time-lapse images of comet C/2025 N1 (ATLAS) for educational purposes. The comet was discovered on July 1 by the ATLAS telescope in Chile. It is the third interstellar object to visit our solar system. Telescopes worldwide will study the comet to learn more about its structure and chemistry.

IIA researchers observed the comet on July 3 using the Himalayan Chandra Telescope at the Indian Astronomical Observatory in Hanle, Ladakh. The comet was about 670 million kilometers away from the Sun and traveling at 61 km per second when first detected in Chile. It will be visible through large telescopes until September.

NASA confirmed that the comet poses no danger to Earth, as it will come no closer than 270 million kilometers. C/2025 N1 (ATLAS) will reach its closest point to the Sun on October 30 at a distance of 1.4 AU.
