China's Tianwen 2 Probe Captures Stunning Images of Earth and Moon on Its Way to Asteroid (Video, Photos)
China's Tianwen 2 probe, en route to collect samples from an asteroid, recently took breathtaking photos of Earth and the moon. Launched on May 28, the spacecraft tested its cameras and shared images of our planet and its natural satellite. Tianwen 2's mission aims to explore the asteroid Kamo'oalewa and potentially reveal insights into the early solar system.

China's Tianwen 2 probe has captured pictures of Earth and the moon as it travels towards the asteroid Kamo'oalewa. The spacecraft launched on May 28 and took images shortly after departure. The China National Space Administration released images on July 1, showing Earth and the moon. Tianwen 2 is China's first asteroid mission, aiming to collect samples from Kamo'oalewa and return them to Earth by late 2027 for analysis.
Tianwen 2 will also rendezvous with the main belt comet 311P/PANSTARRS around 2035. This mission follows Tianwen 1, which sent an orbiter and rover to Mars in 2020. Tianwen 2 could potentially capture a deep-space selfie during its journey.
