Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is set to return as a senior adviser to Goldman Sachs. Sunak previously worked at the firm as a summer intern and later as a junior analyst from 2001 to 2004.
After leaving Goldman Sachs, Sunak worked at the hedge fund TCI, founded by billionaire Chris Hohn, and later at its offshoot, Theleme Partners.
The appointment was announced by Goldman Sachs' CEO David Solomon, who expressed excitement about welcoming Sunak back in his new role. Sunak will advise clients on geopolitical and economic issues, contributing to the firm's culture of ongoing learning and development.
This move is Sunak's first major professional step since resigning as Conservative Party leader after Labour's victory in the July 2024 general election. He has since maintained a low profile, taking on academic roles at the University of Oxford and Stanford University. Sunak plans to continue serving in Parliament from the backbenches for the remainder of his term.
Earnings from his role at Goldman Sachs will be donated to the Richmond Project, a charitable initiative launched by Sunak and his wife to enhance numeracy skills in the UK.
