CBCP Concerned Over Delay in Sara Duterte Impeachment Trial
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) expressed concern over the delay in the Senate regarding the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. The CBCP emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in governance.

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) reiterated its call for transparency and accountability, expressing concern over the delay in the Senate's impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. The bishops gathered for the 130th CBCP Plenary Assembly to reflect on global issues.
The CBCP stated, \"We are disturbed by the Senate's delay in carrying out the constitutional requirement for the Vice President's impeachment process.\" The Senate, acting as an impeachment court, voted 18-5 to return the articles of impeachment to the House of Representatives on June 10.
Emphasizing that impeachment is a legitimate mechanism for transparency and accountability in governance when pursued with truth and justice, the CBCP urged the faithful to embrace a culture of listening with openness rooted in Christian faith.
CBCP President Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David warned that delaying the trial would betray the Constitution and public trust. He stressed that the impeachment process should adhere to moral principles of truth, justice, and accountability.
Additionally, the CBCP called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and condemned the weaponization of starvation, advocating for a culture of peace based on justice, mercy, and shared humanity.
The conference also addressed the issue of low wages in the country, urging dialogue among workers, employers, and the government to ensure just wages and job security. The recent P50 daily minimum wage increase in Metro Manila was noted as the highest ever granted by the NCR wage board, benefiting around 1.2 million workers.
The wage hike will take effect on July 18, 2025, following the previous increase on July 17, 2025.
