OpenAI Enhances Security Measures to Safeguard Intellectual Property

OpenAI has enhanced its security measures to safeguard against corporate espionage. The company intensified security protocols following allegations that a Chinese startup, DeepSeek, unlawfully replicated OpenAI's models using 'distillation' techniques.

The upgraded security measures include restricted access to sensitive algorithms and products through 'information tenting' policies. For instance, only authorized team members were allowed to discuss the o1 model during its development.

Additionally, OpenAI now stores proprietary technology on offline systems, enforces biometric access controls using fingerprint scans, and follows a 'deny-by-default' internet policy. The company has also bolstered physical security at data centers and expanded its cybersecurity team.

These changes address concerns about foreign entities attempting to steal OpenAI's intellectual property. However, amid industry competition and internal leaks, OpenAI may also be addressing internal security issues.

OpenAI has been contacted for a response.
