Colorado Football Coach Deion Sanders Undergoes Bladder Removal Due to Cancer

Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders announced Monday that he was diagnosed with bladder cancer earlier this year. Sanders revealed the news during a news conference as Colorado prepares for the 2025 season. His doctor, Dr. Janet Kukreja, confirmed that Sanders had his bladder removed after a malignant tumor was found and that he has been 'cured' from the cancer.

Sanders shared that the process was challenging, with doctors presenting him multiple options to address the cancer. Due to the high recurrence rate of the cancer type, Sanders opted for the 'curative' measure of bladder removal.

He mentioned that he had surgery scheduled for the tumor while his son Shedeur Sanders faced challenges during the NFL Draft. Sanders expressed his determination to continue coaching despite the diagnosis and credited Randy Moss for supporting him through this time.

The cancer was discovered during routine vascular tests, and Sanders' tumor was caught early before it could spread further. He described the changes in his life post-surgery, including the use of a portable toilet due to bladder control issues.

Sanders emphasized the importance of openly addressing health challenges and serving as an example for others facing similar situations. He completed his will and informed his team of the diagnosis, stressing the need to have affairs in order.

Despite the health setbacks, Sanders remains committed to coaching Colorado as he enters his third season with the team.
