Appeal for Information on Car Movements Before Triple Murder in Fermanagh

The PSNI is appealing for information about a car that was travelling in Maguiresbridge in Co Fermanagh the night before Vanessa Whyte and her children were murdered.

Vanessa Whyte, 45, James, 14, and Sara, 13, were murdered in a shooting incident at their home on the outskirts of Maguiresbridge on Wednesday morning.

A man, who police say was a member of the same household, was also found with a gunshot wound. He is seriously ill in hospital.

This afternoon, the PSNI issued an appeal to the public asking for information involving the movements of a silver Mercedes on Tuesday evening.

PSNI Detective Chief Inspector Neil McGuinness said: \"Our investigation is ongoing and we are working tirelessly to determine the exact circumstances of this tragedy. I would continue to appeal generally for anyone with information to come forward and more specifically I would ask anyone who saw a silver Mercedes saloon car being driven in the Clones Road area of Newtownbutler, or between Maguiresbridge and Newtownbutler, on the evening of Tuesday 22 July, to call detectives on 101, quoting reference 276 23/07/25. Anyone who was travelling in the area and who may have captured dash-cam footage which could assist, please get in touch,\" he added.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people attended a vigil in Co Fermanagh last night in memory of the victims.

A substantial section of the crowd arrived together having walked from the nearby GAA grounds. Ms Whyte and her children were heavily involved in several local GAA clubs as well as other sporting societies.

The vigil took place at Maguiresbridge Primary School which Sara and James had attended. The principal described them as a \"wonderful family\".

Some of those who attended the vigil were too upset to speak, while others said they had turned up to show solidarity with the family.

The gathering was told the community's heart was heavy and hurting. Prayers were offered for the emergency services who responded to the incident and had been met with a harrowing scene. Two minutes' silence was observed in memory of the family.
