Pakistan Introduces Mobile App for Power Consumers to Submit Meter Readings

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated a mobile application in Pakistan that allows power consumers to record and submit their meter readings. The government aims to bring transparency to the electricity system and reduce overbilling. Electricity bills in Pakistan are generated monthly based on readings from power meters. The Power Smart App, launched under the slogan 'Apna Meter, Apni Reading' (Your Meter, Your Reading), aims to involve consumers in the process.

The app allows consumers to take a picture of their meter on a specified date and upload it for bill generation. If both the consumer and the meter reader upload readings, the lower reading will be used for billing. Consumers can also submit readings on designated days to ensure timely subsidy benefits.

Pakistan has been focusing on energy sector reforms to address financial strain, power theft, and transmission losses. The app is part of efforts to improve the electricity system and enhance consumer experience.
