Protests in Bangkok demand resignation of Thai PM Paetongtarn Shinawatra

Thousands of protesters have gathered in Bangkok, calling for the resignation of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra after a leaked phone call with former Cambodian leader Hun Sen. The call, discussing a border incident, sparked public anger. A key coalition partner has quit. Paetongtarn apologized but defended the call as a negotiation technique.

Saturday's rally was the largest since the ruling Pheu Thai party took power in 2023. Protesters braved the rain at Victory Monument, waving Thai flags and holding placards. Protest leader Parnthep Pourpongpan said the PM should step aside. Seri Sawangmue, 70, traveled overnight to join, stating he was there to protect Thailand's sovereignty.

Paetongtarn, daughter of former PM Thaksin Shinawatra, has been in office for 10 months. Protesters are calling for an end to Shinawatra leadership. The rally was organized by the United Force of the Land, criticizing the government's actions. People carried umbrellas, and a rainbow appeared when the rain stopped.
