Teenage Boy Injured in Shark Attack at Cabarita Beach
A teenage boy was seriously injured in a shark attack while swimming at Cabarita Beach in northern NSW. The incident prompted a swift response from surfers and off-duty paramedics who applied a tourniquet to help stop the bleeding. The boy was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital and is currently in a serious but stable condition. The beach will remain closed for the next 24 hours.

A teenage boy was seriously injured after being attacked by a shark while swimming at Cabarita Beach in northern NSW on Sunday. Emergency services responded to the incident around 3.50pm following reports of the attack. The boy suffered injuries to his right upper arm, wrist, and right leg. Surfers and off-duty paramedics helped by applying a tourniquet to control the bleeding. He was airlifted to Gold Coast University Hospital and is currently in a serious but stable condition.
NSW paramedic Ben Mumford commended the brave bystanders who assisted the boy. The group of surfers carried the injured boy up the beach using a surfboard as a makeshift stretcher. The type of shark involved in the attack is unknown at this time, although a tiger shark had been tagged and released in the area recently. Cabarita Beach will be closed for the next 24 hours.
