UN Removes Pakistan from Report on Children and Armed Conflict
The United Nations Secretary General has decided to remove all references to Pakistan from its annual report on children and armed conflict. This decision comes after Pakistan's implementation of preventive measures to protect children, leading to international recognition of the country's efforts in child protection.

The Foreign Office (FO) welcomed the United Nations Secretary General’s decision to remove references to Pakistan from its annual report on children and armed conflict. The UN’s Children and Armed Conflict agenda aims to protect children affected by war by monitoring six grave violations. The annual report lists parties committing these violations to hold them accountable and promote child protection in conflict zones.
In the latest report, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General noted the preventive measures adopted by Pakistan to protect children, leading to the removal of Pakistan from the next report. The FO stated that this outcome reflects Pakistan’s engagement with the UN and its commitment to children’s rights.
Pakistan's efforts in aligning with international norms for child protection were recognized, affirming its commitment to safeguarding children affected by conflict and violence. Pakistan expressed readiness to collaborate with the UN for enhancing child rights and ensuring a brighter future.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also welcomed the decision, emphasizing Pakistan’s sustained engagement and commitment to child protection. The UN's annual report highlighted unprecedented levels of violence against children in conflict zones in 2024, with a record number of grave violations reported.
