Pakistan Bans Land Routes for Arbaeen Pilgrims Due to Security Concerns

The Pakistani government has banned overland travel to Iran and Iraq for Arbaeen pilgrims due to security concerns. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that pilgrims can now only travel by air to the holy sites. The decision was made in consultation with relevant authorities to ensure public safety and national security. To accommodate this change, the government will increase the number of flights for pilgrims.

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced a special flight operation for Arbaeen pilgrims, with outbound flights from August 8 to 11 and return flights from August 18 to 23. The fare for this operation is set at USD 675 per passenger. However, there are calls to reduce the fare and add more flights to meet the high demand during this religious occasion.

Traditionally, Pakistani pilgrims travel overland to Najaf via Iran, but the new ban on road travel is expected to impact travel logistics, especially for those who cannot afford air travel.
