Fit Dad Left Paralyzed by Rare Condition After Stroke
Gareth Bayley, a fit father-of-two, was left paralyzed by Locked-In Syndrome after a stroke at just 38 years old. Despite doctors' grim prognosis, Gareth has shown remarkable progress in regaining movement and communication skills. His family is now raising funds for a life-changing Functional Electrical Stimulation Bike to aid his recovery.

A previously fit-and-healthy dad, Gareth Bayley, from Bexley in South East London, suffered a life-altering stroke after initially dismissing his headaches as stress in April 2022. His collapse at work led to a diagnosis of a stroke in his brain stem, resulting in Locked-In Syndrome. Despite being almost completely paralyzed, Gareth remains mentally alert and has shown progress in regaining facial expressions and communication through blinking. His family is fundraising for a Functional Electrical Stimulation Bike to aid his recovery.
Gareth's wife, Karen, shared that his small improvements have given them hope for further recovery. The family hopes to bring Gareth home with the help of the specialized equipment. The public response to their fundraising efforts has been overwhelmingly supportive, highlighting the need for awareness and support for stroke survivors.
