Local Postman, 49, Faces Terminal Cancer Diagnosis After GP Mistakes Rare Tumour for 'Ingrown Hair'
Kevin Hyde, a 'fit and healthy' father from Milton Keynes, waited five years for a terminal cancer diagnosis after his GP dismissed a suspicious lump as an 'ingrown hair.' Despite a series of missed chances and delays in NHS treatment, his cancer has now reached its final stages. His family is fundraising for private treatments to give him more time.

A father from Milton Keynes, Kevin Hyde, was initially told a lump on his perineum was just an ingrown hair. However, it turned out to be a rare cancer. After facing delays in diagnosis and treatment, the cancer spread to a terminal stage. His family is now fundraising for private treatments to give him more time.
In 2018, Mr Hyde sought help for the lump but it took three years to diagnose epithelioid sarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer. Treatment delays caused the cancer to progress to stage four. Despite delays in radiotherapy and chemotherapy, there is hope for targeted treatments. The family has set up a GoFundMe to cover costs.
Despite frustrations with NHS delays, the family remains hopeful. Mrs Hyde expressed ongoing stress due to delays in treatment decisions. Formal complaints were made about the delays, citing Covid backlogs and limitations in diagnostic pathways. NHS trusts have apologized for the delays and pledged to improve care.
