India's Top Research Bodies Confirm: No Direct Link Between Covid-19 Vaccines and Sudden Deaths
India's health ministry, backed by extensive studies from top research bodies, has debunked claims linking covid-19 vaccines to sudden deaths in adults. Lifestyle choices, pre-existing health conditions, and genetic factors are identified as key contributors to these incidents. The findings aim to dispel misinformation and maintain public trust in vaccines.

New Delhi: The health ministry stated that there is no direct link between covid-19 vaccinations and sudden deaths among adults in India. Extensive studies by top medical research bodies like the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) have identified lifestyle choices, pre-existing health conditions, and genetic factors as key contributors to sudden deaths. The investigations aim to address concerns, provide clarity, and combat misinformation.
The studies have shown that covid-19 vaccination does not increase the risk of sudden deaths, while underlying health issues, genetic predisposition, and risky lifestyle choices play a role. The ministry emphasized that claims linking covid vaccinations to sudden deaths are false and unsupported by scientific consensus. Unfounded reports could lead to vaccine hesitancy and impact public health efforts adversely.
Vaccines administered in India include Covishield by Oxford/AstraZeneca and Covaxin by Bharat Biotech. Covid-19 cases in India have been decreasing, with the active caseload at 1,691. The current spread is linked to Omicron sub-variants NB.1.8.1 and LF.7.
The health ministry highlighted that studies by ICMR and the National Centre for Disease Control are working to understand sudden unexplained deaths in young adults. One study by ICMR's National Institute of Epidemiology showed that covid-19 vaccination does not increase the risk of sudden deaths. Another ongoing study by AIIMS aims to identify common causes of sudden deaths in young adults, with early data suggesting heart attacks as a primary cause.
The government remains committed to evidence-based public health research to protect citizens' well-being. Dr. Rajeev Jayadevan explained that sudden deaths in younger adults have multiple causes, including heart issues, stroke, overdose, and infections. The vaccine link is often promoted by conspiracy theorists on social media.
