India has officially entered the race to host the 2036 Olympics. A delegation from India, including representatives from the union sports ministry, Gujarat government, and Indian Olympic Association president PT Usha, met with International Olympic Committee (IOC) officials in Lausanne to confirm Ahmedabad as India's choice for a future Olympic Games. This move comes after the IOC announced a pause in the host selection process for future Games.

The Indian delegation presented Ahmedabad's bid to host the Olympics, making it the first official communication of this choice to the IOC. With Brisbane set to host the 2032 Olympics, India is eyeing the 2036 Summer Games. The delegation discussed their vision for hosting the Olympics in Ahmedabad and received insights from the IOC about Olympic Games requirements and future aspirations for the Olympic Movement.

The bid highlights that hosting the Olympics would give 600 million young Indians the chance to experience the Games in their home country. The proposal aligns with the Indian principle of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, aiming to welcome global participants as one during the Games.

Gujarat sports minister Harsh Sanghavi expressed eagerness to collaborate with the IOC in realizing this shared ambition. IOA president PT Usha emphasized the generational impact the Olympics in India would have on all Indians.

India faces competition from other nations like Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, and Chile for the 2036 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The bid coincides with changes in the IOC's host selection process, with a pause initiated to review the process and timing of future host announcements.
