Himachal Pradesh Monsoon Update: 63 Dead, 40 Missing in Cloudbursts and Heavy Rains
Recent heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have led to tragic consequences, with 63 confirmed deaths and 40 individuals still missing. The state is facing challenges due to landslides, flash floods, and road closures, impacting infrastructure and communities.

Torrential rains, flash floods, and landslides have caused significant damage in Himachal Pradesh, resulting in the loss of 63 lives and leaving 40 individuals missing since the onset of the monsoon on June 20, as per official reports. The Media Advisor to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Naresh Chauhan, confirmed the casualties, attributing them to cloudbursts and other rain-related disasters.
Chauhan also mentioned that 1% of the state's population will soon undergo Civil Defence training to enhance disaster response capabilities. The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reported the closure of 261 roads, with Mandi district alone accounting for 186 closures. Additionally, heavy rains have disrupted 599 transformers and 797 water supply schemes, causing damage to over 150 houses, 104 cattle sheds, 31 vehicles, 14 bridges, and various roads.
The death toll in Mandi district has risen to 13, with two more bodies recovered recently. Search operations are ongoing for 29 missing individuals. The incidents in Mandi included ten cloudbursts, three flash floods, and a landslide, leading to the rescue of 370 people, the majority of whom were from Mandi. Relief efforts have been established with the setup of five relief camps.
Both the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), in collaboration with local authorities, are actively participating in search and rescue missions in Mandi district. An 'orange alert' has been issued by the weather agency, forecasting heavy to very heavy rains in isolated areas of the state from July 5 to 9. Flash flood risks are also anticipated in Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur districts within the next 24 hours.
