Susan Lupton, a writer with bipolar disorder, mistakenly believed her neighbor's badgers had killed a cat. In a manic episode, she set fire to his Land Rover, causing extensive damage. Lupton admitted to the arson and was banned from the village but avoided prison.

A homeowner torched her neighbour's Land Rover after mistakenly believing badgers he cared for killed a cat. Susan Lupton, 63, set fire to Graham Lee's Freelander to kill badgers living on his driveway. Mr Lee, a wildlife volunteer, left food out for badgers in Freshwater Bay, Isle of Wight. The cat actually died of old age. Lupton, who has bipolar disorder, caused £18,500 damage and was banned from the village after admitting arson.
