The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is investigating the sinking of a landing craft tank (LCT) near Romblon and Sibuyan Island, posing a risk of environmental damage. The LCT 'San Juan Bautista' sank on June 30 with six Filipino crew members rescued. The vessel was carrying 2,500 liters of marine diesel oil but no cargoes. The cause of the incident is under investigation.

PCG assessed the low risk of environmental damage in Southern Tagalog due to the light petroleum fuel that should dissipate quickly. Measures are in place to prevent marine environment destruction. The 360-foot depth and natural processes minimize coral reef impact and ecosystem damage.

PCG is working with rescued crew, local officials, and agencies to determine the cause of sinking. Aerial surveillance on July 1 showed no visible oil slicks. Coastal patrols are ongoing to monitor any pollution signs. Coastal communities are urged to report any oil sheen or debris sightings for immediate action.
