Founder of Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin Passes Away at 90

The founder of the Capuchin Day Centre in Dublin, Brother Kevin Crowley, passed away at the age of 90. His death was announced this morning on the Capuchin Franciscans' website, stating that he was in the care of Mount Desert Nursing Home in Cork.

Br Kevin established the centre on Bow Street in Dublin in 1969, offering hot meals, food parcels, clothing, and day care facilities for homeless individuals in need. During Pope Francis' visit to Ireland in August 2018, he visited the centre where Br Kevin informed him that from serving 50 meals a day initially, the centre had expanded to providing over 800 meals by 2018. He emphasized that the dignity and respect of each person were the top priorities every day.

Catholic Archbishop of Dublin Dermot Farrell expressed his condolences to Br Kevin's family and the Capuchin order, acknowledging the transformative impact of his work on the lives of the poor and marginalized in the city. Archbishop Farrell praised Br Kevin's unconditional love and his ability to see Christ in everyone he encountered.

Funeral arrangements for Br Crowley have been set. His remains will be at St Mary of the Angels Church on Church Street in Dublin from tomorrow, with the requiem mass scheduled for Saturday at 11am, followed by burial in Dardistown Cemetery.
