Former MP Mhairi Black Leaves SNP Over Disagreements

Former SNP MP Mhairi Black has left the party due to disagreements over its stance on trans rights and Palestine. Black, who was previously the SNP's deputy leader at Westminster, expressed her dissatisfaction with the party's decisions. She mentioned feeling that the SNP had 'capitulated' on issues important to her.

Black, who became the youngest MP since 1832 when elected at the age of 20, stood down ahead of the general election last year citing safety concerns, social media abuse, and unsociable hours. She won the MP seat for Paisley and Renfrewshire South in 2015, defeating former Labour cabinet secretary Douglas Alexander.

Black announced her departure from the SNP before her show 'Work in Progress' at the Edinburgh Fringe, stating, 'There have just been too many times when I've thought, I don't agree with what you've done there' or the decision or strategy that has been arrived at.'
