Food company faced two prohibition orders before listeriosis outbreak

Ballymaguire Foods received two prohibition orders in the weeks before a mass recall of its ready meals and side dishes. These orders were part of an investigation that led to recalling over 140 food items this week. Prohibition orders stop the sale of affected products temporarily or permanently. After the orders on June 30 and July 18, recall notices were issued to consumers and retailers. All products have been withdrawn, and production is suspended until authorities approve. The recall was due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes in 142 different products sold in major Irish supermarkets.

Medical professionals are investigating a death related to listeriosis, with nine confirmed cases. Previous recall notices included Bacon & Cabbage Dinners and Turkey and Ham Dinners due to Listeria concerns. The company has appointed a public health expert and taken corrective actions, including a thorough clean-down of the facility. Dr. Patrick Wall is leading the response team to implement necessary procedures.

Listeriosis symptoms range from mild flu-like symptoms to severe complications. Vulnerable groups include pregnant women, babies, and individuals with weakened immune systems. The incubation period can vary from three days to 70 days.
