A 21-year-old congressional intern, Eric Tarpinian-Jachym, was fatally shot in Northwest Washington, D.C. on Monday night. The shooting, which occurred near the intersection of 7th and M Street, was targeted but Tarpinian-Jachym was not the intended victim. He was serving as an intern for Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kan.) and was a student at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

The incident took place around 10:28 p.m. when multiple suspects opened fire on a group of people, injuring three individuals including Tarpinian-Jachym. Despite being unconscious when found, he was taken to a local hospital where he later passed away. Rep. Estes and his wife expressed their condolences to Tarpinian-Jachym's family, praising his service and kind nature.

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police.
