Status Yellow Thunderstorm Warning Issued for Eight Counties

The current hot spell is expected to end next week, with the weather turning more unsettled. Heavy showers and cloudier conditions are forecast, as a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning is in place for eight counties.

Temperatures could reach up to 30 degrees Celsius today, but cloud cover will increase in the southwest. Showers are expected to develop across Munster and Connacht this afternoon and evening.

A Status Yellow thunderstorm warning is active for Clare, Kerry, Limerick, and Connacht until 10pm. Met Éireann is cautioning about heavy, thundery downpours that may cause lightning damage, surface water flooding, and difficult travel conditions. Outdoor events could also be affected.

A separate Status Yellow warning for high temperatures is in place until 6pm for several counties. Met Éireann reported that the highest temperature of the year, 31.1 degrees Celsius, was recorded at the Mount Dillon weather station in Co Roscommon. Oak Park in Carlow, Mullingar in Co Westmeath, and Shannon Airport also saw temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.
