Supreme Judicial Council dismisses 19 complaints against judges

Supreme Judicial Council dismisses 19 complaints against judges

The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) recently reviewed complaints against various judges of the superior judiciary, dismissing 19 of them unanimously. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi called the meeting to address pending complaints and enhance transparency in handling misconduct allegations against judges.

According to a press release dated today, the council assessed 24 complaints under Article 209 of the Constitution, deciding to file 19 complaints while deferring five others. The meeting, chaired by CJP Afridi, included senior judges and high court chief justices.

The council approved the proposed draft of SJC Secretariat Service Rules, 2025 and highlighted the need for further examination of the Procedure of Enquiry, 2005 and Code of Conduct amendments. Justice Akhtar was appointed to lead a committee for proposing code of conduct amendments.

In a previous session, the SJC reviewed 46 complaints against constitutional office-holders, disposing of 40, seeking comments on five, and requesting more information in one case.
