Singapore's PAP Announces New Leaders for Government Parliamentary Committees

The People's Action Party (PAP) has announced new leaders for all 12 of its government parliamentary committees (GPCs) in Singapore. These committees were introduced in 1987 by Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong to scrutinize various ministries' legislation and programs, as well as provide feedback on government policies.
Alex Yam, MP for Marsiling-Yew Tee GRC, will chair the Culture, Community and Youth GPC, taking over from Mr. Sitoh Yih Pin. Mr. Yip Hon Weng will lead the Defence and Foreign Affairs GPC, and Mr. Darryl David will helm the Education GPC. Mr. Saktiandi Supaat will head the Finance and Trade and Industry GPC, and Ms. Yeo Wan Ling will chair Manpower.
Other appointments include Mr. Vikram Nair for Home Affairs and Law, Mr. Henry Kwek for National Development, and Mr. Xie Yao Quan for Social and Family Development. Ms. Mariam Jaafar will take over the Health GPC, and Ms. Poh Li San will lead the Sustainability and the Environment GPC.
Additionally, Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC MP Tin Pei Ling will chair the Transport GPC, and Mr. Sharael Taha will head the Digital Development and Information GPC.
Nineteen first-time MPs have been appointed as members of the GPCs, with the appointments set to take effect with the opening of the 15th Parliament on Sep 5.
In a Facebook post, Ms. Tin expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her and pledged to work closely with fellow GPC members on transport-related issues.
