Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong used the DBS PayLah app to pay at a stall in One Punggol Hawker Centre, as DBS Singapore country head Lim Him Chuan looked on.

Hawker centre meals will be cheaper with diners receiving up to $3 cashback when they use the DBS PayLah app. The initiative, part of a $23 million package by DBS/POSB to mark Singapore’s 60th birthday, was announced in June 2025.

From July 12 to Sept 27, Singaporeans can get up to $3 cashback when they spend at hawker stalls and heartland shops using the DBS PayLah app on Saturdays. This offer is available to the first 160,000 people who scan and pay with PayLah at over 22,000 participating locations from 8am during these 12 weeks.

The initiatives aim to reduce living and business costs and promote multi-generational experiences, according to DBS. Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong attended the launch of the bank’s SG60 pop-up community event at the One Punggol Hawker Centre.

Other measures in the $23 million package include free Nets terminal subscriptions for heartland merchants and nutritious meals distribution to lower-income individuals aged 60 and above. Seniors can also enjoy free tours of the DBS Singapore Gallery at the National Gallery every weekend starting from August.

Residents participated in various activities at the hawker centre, including games and interactions with MPs. Botak Cantonese Porridge stall reported an increase in customers on Saturdays during the cashback initiative in 2024.
