Rape Survivors Reclaim Their Voices After Sentencing of Abuser
Rape survivors express disappointment over the sentencing of their brother who sexually assaulted them. Despite the short prison term, they feel empowered by finally being heard and hope to inspire other victims to speak out.

The sister of a former priest, Richard Brennan, was sentenced to eight years in jail for raping and sexually assaulting his sisters during their childhood. Paula Fay, one of the victims, expressed disappointment with the sentence, stating that it does not reflect the severity of the crimes. Despite this, she emphasized that they have finally been heard and their voices have been reclaimed.
Paula Fay highlighted that no prison sentence can truly compensate for the trauma of rape or sexual abuse. She hopes that their story will encourage other survivors to speak out and seek justice. Catherine Wrightstone, another victim, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators accountable and affirming the value of survivors' lives.
Both sisters emphasized the significance of speaking out and breaking the silence surrounding sexual violence. They believe that justice, though delayed, is achievable and essential for healing. They also called for greater awareness and action to address the ongoing issue of violence against women in Ireland.
