German backpacker survives 11 nights lost in Australian bush

A German backpacker, Carolina Wilga, 26, survived 11 nights in the Australian bush after crashing her car. She was found on a scarcely used track in Western Australia, kilometers away from her vehicle. Police stated she was lucky to survive. Her van was found stuck in dense bushland north of Beacon, with orange traction boards under the rear wheels.

Ms. Wilga explained that she lost control of the car, hit her head, and got confused, leading to her getting lost. She expressed gratitude to those who helped find her, mentioning the support she received during her ordeal.

After being airlifted to a Perth hospital, Ms. Wilga received treatment for exhaustion, dehydration, sunburn, insect bites, and an injured foot. She survived by consuming minimal food supplies and drinking rainwater and puddles. Ms. Wilga was found by a driver, Tania Henley, who described her as fragile and in need of help.

Ms. Wilga had been last seen on 29 June at a general store in Beacon.
