She survived by drinking from puddles and sheltering in a cave. Ms. Wilga expressed her gratitude for being found and thanked the rescuers, medical staff, and search teams.

She mentioned hitting her head after losing control of her van, leading to confusion and getting lost. Despite having supplies in the vehicle, the accident left her disoriented. Ms. Wilga praised the community in Western Australia for their courage, helpfulness, and warmth, emphasizing the importance of humanity and solidarity.

She was discovered barefoot by a motorist more than 30km away from where she left her van. Ms. Wilga described the motorist as her 'saviour and angel.' The abandoned van was found in dense bushland, north of Beacon.
