Massive Political Controversy Erupts in Odisha After Girl's Self-Immolation

The self-immolation of an undergraduate girl student in Odisha, following alleged sexual harassment, has sparked a political controversy. Former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik stated that the girl was denied justice at every level. The girl is in critical condition at AIIMS Bhubaneswar with 90% burn injuries. State officials are monitoring her health closely. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi is addressing the fallout from the incident, which has tarnished the government's image. The incident occurred at F M University, Balasore, where the girl accused a professor of harassment.

Former Chief Minister Patnaik expressed shock and distress over the incident, highlighting the girl's plea for help on social media before resorting to self-immolation. He called for justice and urged the Governor to intervene. The controversy led to the arrest of the accused professor and suspension of the college principal. Congress and BJD leaders protested the government's inaction, leading to a scuffle with the police.

In a similar incident, a Nepalese student took her life after complaints against a classmate were ignored. The National Commission for Women has taken note of the case and demanded a fair investigation and support for the victim. The girl remains in critical condition at AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
