Government bans Ullu, ALTT, and 20 other OTT apps for objectionable content
The Indian government has blocked access to websites and apps of 25 OTT platforms for providing obscene and pornographic content. This action was taken in consultation with various ministries and industry bodies, citing violations of the Information Technology Act and IT Rules.

The Information & Broadcasting Ministry has directed the blocking of websites and apps of at least 25 OTT platforms for allegedly providing obscene, vulgar, and in some cases pornographic content. The action was taken in consultation with various ministries and industry bodies.
Utilizing the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the IT Rules, 2021, notifications have been issued to intermediaries to disable access to the concerned websites and apps.
The contents of 26 websites and 14 apps have been blocked, including platforms like ALTT and Ullu. The government cited sexual innuendos and explicit scenes as reasons for the ban.
Complaints were received from the National Commission on Protection of Child Rights and the Save Culture Save Bharat Foundation. The I&B Ministry had issued advisories earlier, but the platforms failed to remove objectionable content.
The ban came after platforms continued to publish obscene content despite warnings. The Digital Publisher Content Grievances Council had also taken action against violators like ALTT and Ullu.
