A fire destroyed a two-story commercial building in Barangay Poblacion 1, Sagay City, Negros Occidental on Saturday, July 12. The building belonged to a cable and internet service provider, with property damage estimated at P3.8 million.

The fire started in the storage facility on the second floor at 2:39 p.m., according to Fire Officer 2 Ian Dave Defiño of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Sagay. Thick black smoke was noticed by employees on the ground floor, prompting them to evacuate before the fire spread. Combustible materials like cable wires and receipts on the second floor fueled the fire, making it challenging for firefighters to enter the building.

Firefighters from neighboring stations in Escalante and Cadiz cities, along with fire volunteers, responded to the incident. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the fire was extinguished by 5:24 p.m. The fire disruption caused a loss of internet and cable television signal in Sagay and Escalante City, with services only restored in E.B. Magalona and Victorias City later that day.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
