Filipino Dentist Wins Pediatric Oral Health Research Award in Barcelona
Dr. Maritess Oliveros Villarico, a Filipino dentist and advocate for pediatric dental care, received the Pediatric Oral Health Research Award (South East Asia Division) at the IADR conference in Barcelona. Her research on early childhood caries highlighted the need for oral health education in maternal and child care programs.
Filipino dentist and leading pediatric dental care advocate Dr. Maritess Oliveros Villarico won the Pediatric Oral Health Research Award (South East Asia Division) at the 103rd General Session of the International Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR) in Barcelona on 27 June 2025.
Dr. Villarico was recognized for her research on 'Risk Factors for Early Childhood Caries in a High-Incidence Population' conducted in barangay health centers in Caloocan City. The study highlighted the importance of integrating oral health education into maternal and child care programs.
Her work has influenced practices in dental trauma management and pediatric endodontics, earning praise from an international panel of experts. The award was sponsored by the Taiwanese Association of Pediatric Dentistry.
Philippine Consul General Maria Theresa S.M. Lazaro commended Dr. Villarico's achievement as a significant milestone for Filipino dental professionals dedicated to showcasing Philippine-based research globally.
