Xbox graphics lead sparks backlash with AI-generated hiring post
The principal development lead at Xbox's graphics department posted job opportunities on LinkedIn using a cringey AI-generated graphic. The post drew negative responses online, with critics questioning the attention to detail. This incident comes amidst recent layoffs at Xbox and reports of increased AI usage within the company.

Xbox's principle development lead for its graphics department has put out a LinkedIn post announcing new job opportunities. The catch? He used a cringey AI-generated graphic, sparking negative responses.
Mike Matsel's post seeks those experienced with device drivers, GPU performance, or related engineering system experience. The image shows a lady typing on a computer with text on the monitor.
Online responses were critical. Alexander Bertram-Powell said: 'Appreciate this preview of the care and attention to detail that make you a leader'. Danylo S added: 'First layoffs, then post for hire with AI slop, wonderful work, Xbox'.
This post coincided with Xbox's recent layoffs across game developers like Zenimax Online Studios, Rare, The Initiative, and more. Microsoft is reportedly encouraging the use of AI at work post-layoffs, leaving remaining employees with unproven productivity and income increases.
