Wrestling icon Hulk Hogan passes away at age 71

Wrestling legend Hulk Hogan, whose real name is Terry Bollea, has passed away at the age of 71. The police and fire departments in Clearwater, Florida, confirmed responding to a medical call for a cardiac arrest this morning. Hogan was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Hogan was a prominent figure in professional wrestling, playing a key role in the sport's surge in popularity during the 1980s. Known as one of the earliest stars of World Wrestling Entertainment, he was often referred to as the face of pro wrestling's golden era.

The WWE acknowledged Hogan's significant impact on pop culture and credited him for contributing to the brand's global recognition. His era of fame was so iconic that it was dubbed 'Hulkamania.'

Besides his wrestling career, Hogan ventured into acting, landing roles in movies such as Rocky III. In more recent years, he became involved in right-wing politics, making a notable appearance at the 2024 Republican National Convention.

In 2012, Hogan was embroiled in a legal battle with Gawker Media after the website released a portion of a sex tape featuring him. Backed by billionaire Peter Thiel, Hogan successfully sued Gawker Media, winning a $140 million settlement that led to the company's bankruptcy.
