A Waterford landlord and his son had their prison sentences suspended after intimidating a former tenant. The woman was threatened and coerced to leave her family home by the landlord's son. The court ordered the defendants to pay €4,500 to the victim.

A Waterford landlord and his son had their sentences suspended for blackmailing and intimidating a former tenant in their appeal case. John Guiry (50) and John Frampton (28) of Ballygarron, Kilmeaden, received prison sentences last March. Guiry got a four-month sentence for coercion, while Frampton got an eight-month sentence for making unwarranted demands. The woman claimed Guiry wanted her out by May 5th, 2024, or he would send people to the property. On May 2nd, 2024, five hooded men approached her, with one threatening to kill her if she didn't leave, leaving her and her daughter terrified.
State Solicitor Frank Hutchinson outlined the case in court on July 23rd. The woman reported that five men arrived, threatened to kill her, and demanded she leave. The men were identified, and the victim recognized Frampton as the landlord's son. The woman had a dispute with Guiry over moving out and had gone through proceedings with the Residential Tenancies Board. The termination notice was deemed invalid, and the defendants apologized to the victim. The judge suspended their sentences for 12 months and ordered them to pay €4,500 to the victim.
