Squid Game creator hints at spin-off series and shares plot details
Squid Game's showrunner, Hwang Dong-hyuk, suggests a spin-off series exploring the three-year gap between seasons. He envisions focusing on the lives of recruiters and characters outside the gaming arena.

Squid Game’s final season premiered on Friday, but it might not be the end of the show. Showrunner-writer-director Hwang Dong-hyuk hinted at a possible Squid Game spinoff series. Dong-hyuk mentioned a three-year gap between season 1 and 2 where Gi-hun looks for recruiters. He expressed interest in exploring what the recruiters and other characters were doing outside the gaming arena during that period.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hwang Dong-hyuk clarified that the spinoff would not be a sequel to the show, and season 3 serves as the finale. However, he did not rule out the possibility of spinoffs or sequels in the future.
While a Squid Game spin-off series is on the horizon, Dong-hyuk's health has been a concern. He mentioned having to undergo dental procedures during the production of the series, which took a toll on him physically.
The final season of Squid Game premiered today.
