Phoenix Suns Make Three Trades to Kick off Second Round of NBA Draft

The Phoenix Suns will lead off the second round of the NBA Draft Thursday with the 31st pick, acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for the No. 36 pick and two future second-rounders. This was confirmed by Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro following ESPN’s Shams Charania's report.

According to Charania, the Suns are expected to select St. Joe’s forward Rasheer Fleming, who was ranked as a top-20 player on their draft board. In another trade, the Suns traded the 52nd and 59th picks for the 41st pick with the Golden State Warriors.

Minnesota will receive future second-round picks from either Denver or Golden State in 2026, and from either Phoenix or Houston in 2032, as reported by The Athletic’s John Krawczynski. Phoenix had earlier acquired the No. 36 pick from the Brooklyn Nets for two future second-round picks.

Phoenix's general manager Brian Gregory retained their 2025 second-round picks at 52 and 59, giving them three picks before the draft begins. The Suns sent a 2026 pick and a 2030 second-round pick from the Boston Celtics to acquire the 36th pick, according to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.

Brooklyn, having drafted five players in the first round, may not have space for more rookies. The Suns used their lottery selection to draft Khaman Maluach at No. 10 and traded their 29th pick for center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets.

With a roster heavy on shooting guards and centers, Phoenix is looking to add power forwards, point guards, and wings. Several college players are still available as the second round begins, including Rasheer Fleming, Adou Thiero, Tyrese Proctor, Sion James, Kam Jones, Koby Brea, RJ Luis, and Ryan Nembhard.
