Trump Strikes Weapons Deal with NATO to Aid Ukraine, Issues Ultimatum to Putin

Donald Trump has agreed to send 'top of the line weapons' to NATO to support Ukraine and threatened Russia with 'severe' tariffs if it doesn't agree to end the war. During a meeting at the White House with NATO secretary general Mark Rutte, the US president announced the deal to send billions of dollars worth of military equipment to Ukraine, which will be purchased from the United States and distributed quickly to the battlefield.

The weapons being sent include surface-to-air Patriot missile systems and batteries, requested by Ukraine to defend itself from Russian air strikes.

Mr. Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Russia and warned of imposing 'severe tariffs' of 'about 100%' if a deal to end the war in Ukraine is not reached within 50 days. The White House also mentioned the possibility of imposing 'secondary sanctions' on countries buying oil from Russia if an agreement is not made.

This decision follows Mr. Trump's frustration with Vladimir Putin's stance on the conflict in Ukraine, with the Russian leader refusing to back down from Moscow's goals. Mr. Trump described Mr. Putin as a tough negotiator, highlighting the challenges in reaching a resolution.

Earlier this year, Mr. Trump had a fiery meeting with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy, where he warned about the risks of escalating to World War Three and suggested Ukraine initiated the conflict with Russia.

Following Mr. Trump's briefing, Russian senator Konstantin Kosachev expressed disappointment, indicating a lack of substantial progress in the discussions about Ukraine.

Meanwhile, Mr. Zelenskyy met with US special envoy Keith Kellogg in Kyiv to discuss strengthening Ukraine's air defense and collaboration with Europe in defense procurement. He expressed gratitude to both the envoy and Mr. Trump for their support and positive decisions for both countries.
