San Miguel to Build New Terminal at Caticlan Airport for 7 Million Passengers by 2027
San Miguel Corp. is constructing a new passenger terminal at Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan, set to increase capacity to seven million passengers by 2027. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., aiming to enhance travel experience to Boracay Island and boost the economy.
A new passenger terminal is set to be built at Godofredo P. Ramos Airport in Caticlan by San Miguel Corp. (SMC), led by Ramon S. Ang. The terminal is expected to increase the airport's capacity to seven million passengers by 2027. President Ferdinand \"Bongbong\" Marcos Jr. joined Ang in a groundbreaking ceremony on July 14 to kick off the construction.
SMC has enlisted Megawide Construction Corp. to handle the design and construction of the terminal building. The new terminal, to be completed within 24 months, will enhance travel to Boracay Island, a major tourist destination, and boost the local and national economy.
Once operational in 2027, the terminal will double the airport's passenger capacity. It will feature six boarding bridges, 36 check-in counters, enhanced security screening areas, baggage handling systems, and improved boarding gates to ensure efficient passenger flow.
The Department of Transportation (DOTr) expects the modern facilities to reduce queues and waiting times, providing a better travel experience for both domestic and international passengers. DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon highlighted that the project will strengthen Boracay's position as a top destination and improve tourism while enhancing passenger comfort.
The new terminal is anticipated to attract more tourists to Boracay following a slight decline in arrivals in 2024. Government data showed a two percent decrease in tourist numbers from the previous year, with 2.07 million visitors in 2024 compared to 2.12 million in 2023.
