Ravindra Jadeja's Extra Batting Practice Pays Off in India vs England 2nd Test

Ravindra Jadeja played a crucial role in India’s record-breaking recovery on Day 2 of the second Test against England. His 89-run knock and 203-run stand with Shubman Gill were noteworthy. Jadeja broke the BCCI’s Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) by arriving early at the ground for extra batting practice, citing the need to prepare on a challenging English pitch. Since the Australia tour, BCCI mandates all players to travel together in the team bus, but Jadeja chose to come early for additional practice.

Jadeja explained his decision, stating, 'Somewhere I felt that I should go and bat extra because the ball was still new. In England, you never feel set; the ball can swing anytime and take your edge.' His extra session helped him settle in and support Gill, who scored a majestic 269, anchoring India’s total of 587.

Although Jadeja missed a century, he expressed satisfaction in contributing when the team needed it most. The day also saw drama as England captain Ben Stokes accused Jadeja of roughing up the pitch, to which Jadeja responded that it wasn't intentional. With England struggling at 77 for 3 in reply, Jadeja hinted at more to come, saying, 'If we get a chance tomorrow, we’ll try to bowl in good areas and press on.'
