Philippines to Maintain Strong Alliance with US, Says DFA's Lazaro

New Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro emphasized the importance of sustaining the US-Philippines treaty alliance during a United States Independence Day celebration. She highlighted the enduring alliance between the two nations and the need for robust engagement across various areas of cooperation. Lazaro expressed eagerness to continue strengthening bilateral relations and deepen strategic collaboration in political, security, defense, trade, and investment sectors.

US Ambassador MaryKay Carlson reaffirmed Washington's commitment to supporting the modernization of the Philippine military and enhancing cooperation on maritime security, trade, and cybersecurity. The alliance between the US and the Philippines was described as ironclad, with a focus on promoting peace, prosperity, and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

Foreign ministers of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) recently met in Washington, D.C. to reaffirm their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific amid China's assertive actions in disputed waters. The QUAD members expressed strong opposition to unilateral actions that seek to change the status quo by force or coercion.

The US reiterated its support for the Philippines under a mutual defense treaty, particularly in the South China Sea. The alliance between the two countries has been strengthened through high-level engagements, military exercises, and economic investments.

Secretary Lazaro highlighted the expansion of cooperation between the Philippines and the US in various fields, including maritime affairs, science and technology, democracy, cyber policy, energy, aviation, and space.
