Malaysia's Digital Creative Industry Grows to RM5.3b with Launch of Upin & Ipin Universe Game

Malaysia’s digital creative industry had a successful year in 2023, generating RM5.3 billion in revenue with RM800 million in exports, leading to the creation of over 10,000 high-value job opportunities. The government, through the Digital Creative Ecosystem Roadmap (DICE) by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), aims to establish Malaysia as a regional and global hub for digital content creation by 2030.

Under DICE, efforts are focused on talent development, market access, investment, and innovation in the digital creative sector. The official launch of the Upin & Ipin Universe video game marked a significant step in this direction.

The games sector is also thriving in the wave of global digitalization, with the ministry prioritizing the animation and games sub-sector in Malaysia's digital agenda. Initiatives like the Animated Shorts Challenge and Digital Games Testbed further demonstrate Malaysia's commitment to fostering innovation and creative excellence in the digital space.

The Upin & Ipin Universe game launch signifies Malaysia's journey towards becoming a regional hub for animation and games, showcasing creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Developed by Les’ Copaque Production and Streamline Studios, the game is set to be released on various platforms on July 17, offering a unique open-world adventure experience inspired by the popular Upin & Ipin series.

This game aims to appeal to a global audience while preserving its cultural roots, reflecting Malaysia's potential in the digital creative industry.
